Adding Authentication to React AppsEntry 11 of 11
Summary
| Concept | React (React Router) | Angular |
|---|---|---|
| Auth form mode | useSearchParams() + ?mode= | mode input + [queryParams] |
| Submit credentials | Route action + <Form> | Component → AuthService |
| Read query params in handler | new URL(request.url).searchParams | Component input |
| Store token | localStorage via util/auth.ts | localStorage + signal in AuthService |
| Send token | Authorization header / authFetch() | HttpInterceptorFn |
| Auth state in UI | Root tokenLoader + useRouteLoaderData('root') | isAuthenticated signal |
| Logout | /logout route action + <Form> | authService.logout() |
| Protect route | loader: checkAuthLoader + redirect() | canActivate: [authGuard] + UrlTree |
| Auto logout | useEffect + setTimeout + useSubmit | Timer in AuthService |
| Real security | Backend token validation | Backend token validation |
React Router handles auth with the same tools as data: actions for login and logout, loaders for auth state and route protection, and revalidation to refresh the UI. Angular splits the same jobs across dedicated pieces: an AuthService with signals, an interceptor for tokens, and guards for routes. In both, client checks only shape the UX; the backend enforces access.
